Who knew emoticons were useful during a sprint retrospective? Well, they are, for Emoticons allows team members to build emotional intelligence while having fun. 

What is the Emoticons Retro?

Emoticons are a great way to get the team to talk about a project in a fun way. For this activity, the facilitator will have the group pick four emoticons. Based on these emoticons, the group will define what they mean, and the facilitator will create four simple questions that include the emoticons. The team can now go through each of these simple questions and discuss among themselves their answers. Discussing the four questions helps the team learn how to deal with emotions during projects which makes them quicker at confronting any obstacle at hand. 

When should the Emoticons be used?

Discussing a members’ emotions is a great way to build trust in the team. Additionally, this allows the team to build emotional intelligence which helps the team become quicker at resolving any issues that arise. This sprint retrospective activity should be used any time you want to build the team’s emotional intelligence and is a great way for members to learn how to deal with their emotions and others. Additionally, this activity makes something that makes one feel vulnerable more fun and relaxing.
